Since ancient myths of women’s carnality (evil) and vaginal filth etc are upheld and transmitted by the church and buttressed by the state, and vice versa, historically and presently, as a part of totalitarian sex caste system, it makes total sense to plan an act of feminist insurrection (a pussy riot, for example) in almost any church anywhere. The band PUSSY RIOT have done this; they have executed a work of art that continues, through its glorious reputation, to repudiate the repressive collaboration of church and state in Russia, even though they, as individuals, have been jailed since March. The verdict for art-punk protestors Yekaterina Samutsevich, Maria Alyokhina, and Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, aka PUSSY RIOT, will be read Friday. Thursday night we’ll read their statements about the show trial they’ve been subjected to, and about their lives and art under Putin.
